Palisades fire: Santa Monica maintains evacuation orders, continues to assess active nearby fire

SANTA MONICA, California (Jan. 12, 2025)The City of Santa Monica continues to monitor The Palisades Fire answer and although firefighters did encouraging progress sunday, ccurrent town mandatory evacuation orders and warnings remain in place in the middle of critical fire weather.

Low humidity and dry conditions continueuin the area. National Weather Service’s Red Flag Warning, in effect through Wednesday, January 15, indicates unpredictable and dangerous fire conditions. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph in Santa Monica and up to 50-75 mph in the mountain areas where the Palisades The fire is still burning actively.

There are no active fires in Santa Monica.

Evacuuming Iinstructions in Santa Monica from 5 pm 12 Jan:

Evacuation order north of San Vicente Boulevard

The area from San Vicente Boulevard north remains under evacuation and public access orders is not allowed.

Evacuation warning for northern Montana Avenue to San Vicente Boulevard

Residents may voluntarily return to this area, but must remain prepared with general necessity and be ready to leave the area if conditions worsen. These areas should remain vigilant and have evacuation plans in place.

A curfew is still in effect from 18.00 to 06:00 in all areas under a mandatory evacuation order and evacuation warning. Santa Monica Police Department and California National Guard personnel remain present and visible in evacuation areas. Please follow all instructions from public safety authorities.

Evacuation orders and warnings are in place when an active fire occurs or foreseen fire conditions threaten life and property. For Santa Monica, the decision to implement or change an evacuation zone is created of the Santa Monica Office of Emergency Management, Police and Fire Departments in coordination with Cal Brand Incident Management Team and the city and the county Lus ONEEnglish.

Fires can grow at a very fast pace, hap arose throughout this emergency, with high win bearing embers to new areas where spot fires ignited and spread. Evacuation orders and warnings will be lifted as soon as possible it is specific that a fire is no longer a threat to the area.

The city continues to monitor fire activity and aggressive firefighting is deployed in active fire areas. ISLANDout of state fire fighting reinforcements arrives Saturday reinforced the Palisades Fire effort overnight and -onell day Sunday. Santa Monica continues with facylate accommodation and apparatus installation areas for fire crews taking a well-deserved break from fighting on the front line.

Town Public Works teams have made significant progress on debris cleanup in previously evacuated areas and continue to work systematically through the city. Crews will cover every street and alley in the city, then residents please abstain from submitthing individual 311 requests.

town services such as street sweeping, garbage collection, tree clearing and other services began today in evacuation warning areas. Services in the area north of San Vicente will remain suspended because of mandatory Evacuation order and will become available when the area is subject to an evacuation warning.

All other water customers within the city limits are serviced by the City of Santa Monica Water Works. Water serviced by the City of Santa Monica Water Works remains safe to drink.

City services will basically back to normal on Monday 13 January. with decreasing smoke conditions in the region. Find the latest updates at santamonica.gov.
