Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins score in Warriors loss to Raptors

The Golden State Warriors dropped a heartbreaker on Monday night, losing 104-101 to Toronto Raptors after their former player, Chris Boucher, dropped 17 points in the fourth quarter to help Toronto complete a comeback.

Another painful loss.

Now let’s grade the players and we’ll do it quickly tonight. As always, grades are based on my expectations for each player, with a “B” grade representing the average performance of that player.

Note: True-shooting percentage (TS) is a measure of scoring efficiency. Going into Monday’s games, the league average TS was 57.4%.

Buddy Hield

33 minutes, 8 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, 2 turnovers, 1 foul, 3-for-13 shooting, 2-for-10 threes, 30.8% TS, +6

Okay, I’ll say it: this whole “Buddy Hield can play defense but not shoot” thing is really, really throwing me for a loop. What is happening? I am so confused!

A really good defensive play for Buddy. A really bad offensive game. That might be encouraging going forward, but he’s here to score and he’s really struggling with that.

Grade: C
Bonus after the game: Just for the best plus/minus on the team.

Andrew Wiggins

35 minutes, 20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 2 fouls, 6-for-13 shooting, 4-for-9 threes, 4-for-6 free throws, 63.9% TS, +4

Wiggins returned to the field after missing two games for personal reasons. And while he couldn’t record his first win on his home court in Canada, he was pretty clearly one of the best Warriors all night, with very good offense and solid defense.

Grade: A-

Trayce Jackson-Davis

30 minutes, 3 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 3 turnovers, 2 fouls, 1-for-4 shooting, 1-for-4 free throws, 26.0% TS, +6

It’s fun to see TJD get a chance to play true starter minutes. Unfortunately, he didn’t have it in this game. He couldn’t create separation, had as many turnovers as points and struggled on defense.

Grade: C-
Bonus after the game: Just for the best plus/minus on the team.

Dennis Schroeder

24 minutes, 12 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 2 turnovers, 1 foul, 5-for-12 shooting, 2-for-6 threes, 50.0% TS, +6

A pretty mediocre game from Schröder. Nothing special about the attack, but he ran the ship pretty well and his defense was decent. Still waiting for things to click. Mid-season additions are difficult.

Grade: B-
Bonus after the game: Just for the best plus/minus on the team.

Steph Curry

35 minutes, 26 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, 4 turnovers, 2 fouls, 9-for-17 shooting, 4-for-10 threes, 4-for-4 free throws, 69.3% TS, 0 + / –

There are many reasons why the Warriors lost, but Curry with 26, seven and seven is certainly not one of them. Turnovers have really been an issue of late, but not to excuse Curry, they feel more the result of him carrying too much of a burden than anything else.

A very solid game for the chef. Too bad it couldn’t be rewarded with a win.

Grade: A-
Bonus after the game: Led the team in points and assists.

Kevon Looney

18 minutes, 10 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 2 fouls, 5-for-9 shooting, 55.6% TS, -8

An absolute beast on the glass. Looney is now up to 225 rebounds in just 517 minutes. Absurd! He comfortably leads the NBA in rebounds per game. 36 minutes and per 100 possessions, and is third (behind only Andre Drummond and Karl-Anthony Towns) in overall rebound percentage.

Grade: A-
Bonus after the game: Tied for the team lead in rebounds.

Lindy Waters III

22 minutes, 8 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block, 1 turnover, 2-for-6 shooting, 2-for-4 threes, 2-for-3 free throws, 54.6% TS, -9

It’s been fun watching Waters find ways to help the team win that aren’t just scoring. He was all over the glass in this game, which was great. Just a solid all-around game for Waters.

Grade: B+
Bonus after the game: Tied for the team lead in rebounds.

Moses Moody

14 minutes, 1 point, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 0-for-6 shooting, 0-for-3 threes, 1-for-2 free throws, 7.3% TS, -10

Not easy to positively impact a game when you’re shooting 0-for-6 from the field, and Moody didn’t do enough in other areas to make up for it.

Grade: D+
Bonus after the game: Worst plus/minus on the team.

Gui Santos

12 minutes, 0 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, 3 fouls, 0-for-3 shooting, 0-for-2 threes, 0.0% TS, -9

The Gui magic hit a bit of a bump in the road in this game, though I was still impressed with his defense and general comfort on the floor, even if he still looks a little lopsided.

Grade: C+

Kyle Andersen

18 minutes, 13 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 foul, 4-for-5 shooting, 2-for-2 threes, 3-for-3 free throws, 102.8% TS, -1

Anderson can’t quite make you forget that Draymond Green isn’t on the court, but he certainly did a lot to ease the pain. A great game for Slo Mo.

Grade: A

Monday’s DNPs: Pat Spencer
Monday’s inactive: Draymond Green, Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, Quinten Post
