Call The Midwife fans slam ‘absurd stories’ as couple grow close | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Call the Midwife viewers questioned the authenticity of some of the storylines in the long-running BBC period drama as Rosalind Clifford (played by Natalie Quarry) and Cyril Robinson (Zephryn Taitte) appeared to grow closer.

This is despite the fact that he is still married to Lucille Anderson (Leonie Elliott), who is currently in Jamacia. It didn’t take long for fans to flock to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their thoughts about the show online.

One user fumed: “This show is really getting absurd. Single moms and a gay man living with nuns, a married black man dating a classy girl, this would never happen!!! Get back to good storytelling and fire your woke writers immediately.”

“What was the belief in dating a married man in the 70s? I know Sister Julienne won’t be happy if Rosalind finds out. I know she and Cyril aren’t officially dating yet, but they’re getting close ,” noted another.

A third also took issue with Cyril’s marita status, commenting: “I think Cyril and Rosalind could be cute together but I think Cyril needs a divorce first #CallTheMidwife.”

However, not everyone said no. A fourth viewer asked: “Is there love blooming for Rosalind and Cyril? Cyril deserves something good. So does Rosalind and they would be amazing together. #CallTheMidwife.”

Another thought that a relationship between the pair would improve the storytelling, chimed in: “Being a couple, Rosalind and Cyril would have so many opportunities for excellent storytelling that we usually see intermarriage throughout the story of the week. Having it as a focal point would be great #callthemidwife.”

Meanwhile, a sixth added: “I hope Cyril goes to Jamaica for a divorce. Rosalind is his equal in every way!! #CallTheMidwife #Cryrilind”

The budding romance between the pair was first introduced in the recent Christmas special, and their connection has only continued to grow after Rosalind began volunteering at the homeless shelter Cyril helps.

Unfortunately for Rosalind, the end of the episode saw Cyril take extended leave from work to visit Lucille in Jamaica, putting any potential romance on hold for now.

Tonight’s episode (January 12) also saw Popular hit by an outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases after a construction manager organized trips to the brothel for hs employees.

This forced Miss Higgins (Georgie Glen) and the other doctors to do some detective work to find patient zero while treating everyone affected. Meanwhile, Violet Bucket (Annablle Apison) was ready to say goodbye to her position as mayor of Poplar.

But before she could hand back her chain of office, she got the news that the incoming mayor was ill and unable to take office, meaning she had to decide whether to take on another term.

Call the Midwife is broadcast on Sundays from 20.00 on BBC One or tune in on BBC iPlayer.
