Arctic blast moves in

  • Possible shower or two tonight
  • Tuesday will be the coldest morning
  • Another arctic air mass arrives next weekend

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – When you step outside this evening in southern Wisconsin, prepare for a sharp drop in temperatures as a cold front sweeps through. Gusty winds will add an extra chill, bringing chills to a bitter -15°F Monday morning. If you’re on the road tonight or planning your Monday morning commute, watch for icy roads, especially in areas where today’s light snow and drizzle left surfaces moist.

What comes next…

Monday will feel brutally chilly. While the sun may peek out in the afternoon, high temperatures will struggle to climb out of the teens. Those going to work or school will have to bundle up against the strong northwesterly winds that will make it feel even colder. Monday night, low temperatures will drop near zero, and some areas could see wind chill chills approach -20°F.

A look ahead…

Tuesday brings a slight reprieve as the wind begins to die down, although it will still be bitterly cold in the morning. Elevations will slowly rise, and by midweek southern Wisconsin may enjoy a very brief warm-up. Another bout of arctic air could make its presence felt this weekend, potentially bringing more snow and intensifying the winter chill.
