Today’s ‘Wordle’ #1,305 Game Tips and Answers for Tuesday, January 14th

During the winter months it can be hard to feel motivated to do much, but Wordlei is a simple pleasure we can still enjoy.

Developed by Josh Wardle, a software engineer based in Brooklyn, the game was originally a gift for his girlfriend who loved word games. Originally intended for the couple’s own enjoyment during the COVID-19 lockdowns, Wardle soon recognized its wider appeal and launched Wordle online in October 2021.

The game’s popularity skyrocketed within months, with New York Times acquires it for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

Wordle isn’t just a hit with laypeople; even celebrities love to play and share their results with other A-listers.

Comedy legends and co-stars of the Apple TV+ series Royal Palm, Carol Burnett and Allison Janney compared their scores almost every day, with Burnett describing the game as “fun”.

“Allison and I, we Wordle,” Burnett shared Entertainment tonight in April 2023. “We’re just talking back and forth.”

A new word appears at midnight in the players’ respective time zones on Times’ game app or website. But if one game a day isn’t enough for you, subscribers can also access more than 1,000 past puzzles from the official Wordle archive.

“We’re thrilled to unlock the official Wordle archive for our subscribers,” Jonathan Knight, Head of Games at Timessaid in May 2024. “This expansion isn’t just about playing past puzzles; it’s about deepening the connection our community has with Wordle and with each other.”

How to play Wordle

Players are tasked with guessing a five-letter mystery word – and must do so in six tries or less. They are helped along with a colour-coded tile system: green means they got the letter right; yellow shows that the letter appears in the word but is in the wrong place; and finally, a gray tile indicates that the letter does not appear in the word at all.
