China is considering selling TikTok in the US to Musk

Beijing is reportedly considering the sale of TikTok’s US operations to Elon Musk ahead of a Sunday deadline from Washington for the app’s Chinese owners to divest from the business or face being banned.

According to Bloomberg and The Wall Street JournalThe proposal is part of a broader discussion among Chinese officials about how to deal with the incoming administration of US President Donald Trump, with ties to Musk – a Trump ally but also a billionaire who is somewhat dependent on China as Tesla has production facilities on land — among the factors.

Combining TikTok’s US operations with Musk’s X social media platform could boost the latter’s ad sales, and the video-sharing platform’s wealth of content could also boost his AI efforts.
