Eva Longoria Tears Up and Donates $50,000 to Families and Workers Affected by LA Fires

Eva Longoria made a heartfelt vow.

On Saturday, January 11, the actress, 49, shared an emotional video message Instagram amid the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

In her video, Longoria said she is donating $50,000 to the organization This is about humanity to support frontline workers and families affected by the fires.

“It’s been a crazy week,” she said, “devastating for so many people, so many friends who have lost a lot … Memories and things that people have worked really hard for.”

The Desperate Housewives Alun then revealed that she and her family evacuated their home because they were “under an alert” and “kept getting an alarm.” However, she added that she is now housing friends “who were evacuated from other areas.”

“We’ve donated clothes, I literally emptied my pantry to go down to all the places that accept donations,” Longoria continued. “I’m going to support This Is About Humanity. They’re matching up to $50,000 to essential frontline workers and families affected by the fires. I’ll personally match that $50,000.”

The actress explained that the money will “support all these families who work tirelessly to keep us fed with food. These farm workers still go out there and produce and pick our produce and dangerous conditions. And then we’ll support This Is About Humanity.”

She began wrapping her video with an inspirational message telling LA residents to “just stay strong.”

“I know there’s a lot of stuff on social media. I don’t think this is the time to analyze what went wrong. We need to get a handle on the situation right now,” Longoria said. “So everyone that’s out there helping and doing their part, thank you.”

The actress noted that “everyone has been so helpful” during this tragedy.

“People are coming together in beautiful ways and it’s beautiful to see,” she said. “I will continue to post links and places you can help, volunteer and donate. To everyone out there helping and doing their part, thank you. God bless all the firefighters who put their lives on the line to save our life and our home. Thanks to everyone who helps.”

Longoria reiterated her promise in the caption of her post.

“My heart breaks for the City of LA and the devastating fires that have affected so many lives,” she wrote. “I am personally matching $50,000 to @thisisabouthumanity’s efforts to support essential frontline workers, farm workers, day laborers and families affected by these wildfires. I hope we can come together and support these resilient members of our community.”

The wildfires started on Tuesday, January 7 and have displaced more than 80,000 people, including many celebrities.

The LA County Medical Examiner has reported 16 fatalities per January 11. In addition, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said at a press conference on January 12 that at least 16 people have been reported missing since the wildfires started, as of New York Times.
