FULHAM GIFTS HELP POTTER TO FIRST PREM WIN

Fulham had themselves to blame as they fell to a 3-2 defeat against West Ham United in a scintillating clash at the London Stadium on Tuesday.

In Graham Potter’s first game in charge of a Premier League fixture since his sacking from Chelsea, he received a warm reception from the east London faithful and as hearty a display from his side as they were forced to defend for long periods.

Fulham started on the front foot as West Ham failed to get a touch of the ball in the opposition half during a torrid opening half hour, but a disallowed goal from a Max Kilman header sparked the hosts.

They opened the scoring after 31 minutes when loose passing around the Fulham backline resulted in Carlos Soler having a free net to aim at and the midfielder made no mistake to slam home an effort.

And Potter’s side gained a healthy advantage two minutes later when Tomas Soucek finished off a fine team move to put the Hammers firmly in the lead.

However, the second half erupted into chaos as Alex Iwobi struck first – reducing the arrears as his right-footed cross from the left flank rolled all the way into the net.

And as Marco Silva’s side pressed, they again delivered an absolute gift to the hosts as Bernd Leno was caught in possession, with Lucas Paqueta benefiting to fire into an empty net.

Iwobi astonishingly cut the hosts’ lead once again when another cross failed to make contact with a Fulham player but dribbled all the way into the net – although the visitors could not force an equalizer as their nine-match unbeaten run came to an end in a frustrating evening.
