MLK events kick off Friday with new ways to connect with the celebration

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio community has several events planned leading up to the 38th Martin Luther King Jr. March and party on Monday 20 January at 10:00 a.m

The celebration begins with several events the days before, starting on Friday at 19 with the New Baptist Ministers’ Union MLK Worship Service at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 N Walters St.

Teenagers have their day on Saturday, January 18 with the MLK Youth Empowerment Summit at St. Phillips College. Pre-registered attendees will receive a special Spurs-related surprise. The event starts at 9 and will include food and games with a special focus on aviation and space travel.

The MLK Wreath Laying Ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 19 at 14 at the Martin Luther King Plaza at N New Braunfels and E Houston Street.

Later that day, the 38th Annual MLK Citywide Interfaith Service will take place at 4:30 p.m. in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

MLK pre-march early morning worship program will take place at 8 on Monday, January 20 at 3501 Martin Luther King Drive. Attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the San Antonio Food Bank.

The march starts at 10 a.m. on Martin Luther King Jr. Academy. The 2.5-mile walk ends at Pittman-Sullivan Park around

This year, QR codes can be found along the route to donate to the MLK Scholarship Foundation, which benefits local students. Attendees can also upload photos from the event to be sent to the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum.
