The Maryland Transportation Authority is warning residents about unpaid toll schemes

MARYLAND (DC News Now) — The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is warning people not to fall for a reported scheme circulating via text and email.

In a post on the X Platform on Monday, January 13, the MDTA said it had seen reports of residents receiving fake texts and emails claiming they have a debt to pay for using a toll road.

The department noted that these are schemes that seek to obtain personal information from individuals, including credit cards, usernames and passwords.

Anyone who has received these messages should report them to the FBIaccording to MDTA.
