Student in critical condition after self-inflicted shooting at Cobb County middle school

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Cobb County student is in critical condition after they “used a firearm to commit self-harm” at a Mableton middle school, according to a statement from a district spokesman.

Cobb County police responded to Lindley Middle School and found a victim, police said. The school was temporarily closed but “has been thoroughly cleared and deemed safe,” according to police.

“The code red was lifted when police confirmed there was no specific threat to fellow students,” the statement said. “The student is in critical condition, surrounded by their family and loved ones, and our thoughts are with them.”

Parents can reunite with their children at the Leland United Methodist Church at 81 Veterans Memorial Highway.
