Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns Fired for Wearing Eagles Gear to Game Vs. 76ers

Karl-Anthony Towns might have made some angry New York sports fans a little angry Wednesday night.

The Knicks superstar rocked a green Eagles sweater with a retro logo as they sat on the bench during New York’s contest against the rival 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Towns, a native of Edison, NJ, has previously made it clear that he had no problem supporting the Eagles regardless of which NBA team he plays for.

While with the Timberwolves in 2018, he took to social media to announce his support for the Eagles — who had beaten the Vikings in the NFC title game en route to their first-ever Super Bowl victory.

Towns, a self-proclaimed “born and bred” Eagles fan, was called out for his words, but told reporters he didn’t mind the criticism and preferred to stay true to himself.

That is truly being an Eagles fan.

“I have to be myself” Towns told reporters that January. “I’ve been an Eagles fan since I was young. I’ll always stay loyal to my team. No matter what happened that game, I won either way. I would have tremendous support for the Vikings if they won, and I would obviously have support for the Eagles if they won. It was a win-win for me.”

While he kept his truth courtside — sitting out with a bone chip and sprained thumb — on Wednesday, that didn’t mean some Knicks fans weren’t angry and confused by the decision.

“I can’t believe KAT in this eagle looks on the bench. He should be fined,” wrote one fan on X.

“No way KAT got an Eagles sweater on the Knicks bench smh,” wrote another.

“KAT why the hell are you wearing an Eagles jacket when we play Philly,” one angry fan tweeted.

On the broadcast, Jalen Brunson — also a noted Eagles fan — said during an in-game interview that he was okay with the Eagles merchandise, said he “absolutely” co-signed the move.

With his two injuries, Towns sat out Wednesday night’s game but is expected to play through it, The Post reported.

He is considered everyday.
