Is Dorian Finney-Smith playing tonight? Updates for the Lakers moving forward

The Los Angeles Lakers are on a three-game losing streak after falling apart in the fourth quarter on Monday in a 126-102 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. They will look to halt that slide on Wednesday when they host Miami Heat at the Crypto.com Arena.

Beating the Heat would mean keeping guard Tyler Herro, who is having a career-best season by averaging 24.0 points a game and making 40.3% of his 3-point attempts. On December 4, as the Heat blasted Los Angeles 134-93, he scored 31 points and made an incredible nine 3-pointers, seven of which came in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for LA, it will be without forward Dorian Finney-Smith, one of its best and most versatile defenders, who is out for personal reasons. He’s out for good reason though, as he and his partner welcome a baby boy into their family.

Finney-Smith joined the Lakers in a December 29 trade with the Brooklyn Nets. He has provided them with a legitimate 3-and-D wing that can guard multiple position players and spread the floor on offense. Since arriving, he’s averaging 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 23.7 minutes a game while shooting 40.9% from 3-point range.

But his acquisitions haven’t translated into consistent wins, at least not yet. The Lakers are 2-4 with him, despite being in the most favorable stretch of their schedule.
