NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed during a reported burglary attempt at his Bandra residence on the 11th floor early on Thursday morning. The 54-year-old actor suffered six stab wounds after confronting an intruder who broke into his apartment between 2am and 2.30am. The perpetrator fled the scene after a violent fight with the actor.
Police reported that the intruder had a confrontation with Khan’s maid before the actor intervened, resulting in a physical fight.

Mumbai police gives statement

The Bandra police, along with the Mumbai crime branch, are investigating the burglary and attack. Deputy Police Commissioner Dixit Gedam confirmed the ongoing investigation and noted that the intruder had bypassed the building’s security. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to establish how the intruder gained access to the flat. The authorities are also working to understand whether the intruder had attempted a burglary or had another motive.

Details of the stabbing

The intruder allegedly entered Khan’s home while his family was present. Initial investigations suggest the attacker first confronted a maid before Khan intervened, leading to a heated argument. Police are investigating how the intruder bypassed the building’s security, with CCTV footage from the premises being reviewed.

Taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital

Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son Ibrahim and a caretaker around 3am. Doctors reported that the actor suffered deep injuries, including one near the spine and another on his left wrist, which required surgery. The hospital’s COO Dr. Niraj Uttamani confirmed that Khan’s condition is stable, although the full extent of the injury is yet to be determined.

The hospital issues a statement

Khan is currently undergoing surgery at Lilavati Hospital, where he was admitted with six incised wounds caused by a sharp object. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, the hospital’s COO, stated that Khan’s condition was stable, but indicated that the extent of the injury would not be fully understood until after surgery. Two of the wounds were reported to be deep, one near the spine and the other on his left wrist, which may require plastic surgery. Although his injuries are serious, they are not considered life-threatening.

Saif Ali Khan’s team releases a statement

A statement from Khan’s PR team confirmed the attack and reassured fans of his recovery. “There was an attempted burglary at the residence of Mr. Saif Ali Khan. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. It is a police matter and we request patience from the media and fans,” the statement read.

Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team issues statement

A statement from Kareena Kapoor Khan’s team also confirmed the burglary attempt. The statement added that the actor suffered an arm injury and is and that the rest of the family is safe.
“There was an attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan and (his wife and actor) Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence last night. Saif had an injury to his arm, for which he is in hospital, during a procedure. The rest of the family is fine ,” the statement said.
