The NBA is mourning the death of SuperSonics legend Gus Williams, key player in the 1979 championship

Gus “The Wizard” Williams, a former Seattle Supersonics player who led the team to its only NBA championship in 1979, has died at age 71.

Williams spent six seasons of his NBA career with the Supersonics.

The shooting guard averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.7 rebounds during his career.

In the 1975-76 NBA season, Williams finished second in Rookie of the Year voting to Alvan Adams.

His career began as a draft pick of the Golden State Warriors and ended after the 1986-87 season with the Atlanta Hawks.
