Mel Gibson examines the rubble of the $14.5 million Malibu mansion destroyed by Palisades Fire

A heartbreaking homecoming.

Mel Gibson visited the rubble of his $14.5 million Malibu mansion Wednesday, a week after it burned down in the Palisades fire.

The actor, 69, was escorted through his neighborhood in a fire truck and then surveyed the damage to his home of 15 years.

He was photographed shaking hands with the firefighters and thanking them for their efforts in fighting the many fires.

Gibson, who was dressed in a blue flannel shirt, jeans and a black hat, found an end table in the rubble, which he took with him, according to TMZ.

Gibson was joined a NewsNation reporter and California First Responders for a trip where they toured the destroyed Los Angeles properties.

The “Mad Max” star asked one of the first responders if they knew the “reservoir was empty,” to which the firefighter replied that the fire crew ran out of water “pretty quickly.”

“It is not uncommon for us to lose water in our firefight. It’s just that early in the game was surprising,” the fireman explained.

Gibson replied: “Because yeah, there wasn’t. And no one told you? That’s crazy.”

Gibson’s house was vandalized last week while he was on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

The “Patriot” actor blasted California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his handling of the crisis during his interview with Rogan, 57.

“We were just talking about the wildfire situation and how crazy is it that they spent $24 billion last year on the homeless and what did they spend on preventing these wildfires?” Rogan asked.

“Zero,” Gibson replied. “Zip.”

“In 2019, I think Newsom said, you know, ‘I’m going to take care of the forest and maintain the forest,’ and do all those kinds of things,” Gibson said on the podcast. “He didn’t do anything.”

Gibson later spoke with NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” and said he “was a little uncomfortable” while doing Rogan’s show because he knew his neighborhood was “soft.”

“But when I got home, it wasn’t there,” he said. “I’ve never seen a place so perfectly burned.”

“There were a dozen or so places that were just non-existent. So nothing but a chimney and a couple of roof tiles, and you don’t dare go around for the seams and everything. The vehicles were gone, everything,” Gibson added.

The “Braveheart” star confirmed that several neighbors also lost their homes — including fellow actor Ed Harris.

“My place looked like Dresden,” he said. “It’s emotional. You know, I lived there for about 14, 15 years, so it was home to me, and I had a lot of personal things there that, you know, I can’t get back. All kinds of things. Everything from photographs to files to, you know, just personal stuff that I had from over the years and clothes and, you know, cool stuff.”

As of Thursday morning, the Palisades fire has killed at least nine people and spread across 23,000 acres. It is 22% contained.
