Carlos Alcaraz has entered the fourth round of the Australian Open with a four-set win against Portugal’s Nuno Borges.

Borges did a great job of taking the third set in a tie-break, but Alcaraz proved too strong and won the match 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 in two hours and 55 minutes.

The dazzling Spaniard said he was delighted to take center court today after playing his opening two matches at the Margaret Court Arena.

“I missed Rod Laver. I’m just really, really happy to be playing here again,” Alcaraz said.

“I tried my best tennis here. For me it has been a pleasure. Every time I step on this court I say many times that it is a really beautiful court and the last time I played here I lost so I really wanted to win here at Rod Laver Arena.

“I’m just happy to see a full crowd watching my fights. I am privileged to feel this love here in Australia, in your part of the world.

The Australian Open is the only grand slam that Alcaraz has not won. Every time he wins a slam, he gets a tattoo of a strawberry for Wimbledon, the Eiffel Tower for Roland Garros and the date of his first US Open win.

Alcaraz confirmed he would get a tattoo of an iconic Australian animal if he won in Melbourne this month.

“It’s a kangaroo, that’s for sure,” he said.
