Betrayal leads to the first successful banishment

Warning: Major spoilers for the third season of “The Traitors” ahead.

The new episode of “The Traitors” proved that no one in Alan Cummings castle is safe from betrayal. Not even the traitors themselves.

For the first time this season, the faithful succeeded in banishing a traitor. However, unbeknownst to them, they were aided by one of the secret “assassins” who turned on their team member.

At the start of the fourth episode, the traitors chose three innocent believers to lay in coffins outside in front of everyone. One of them was then eliminated from the game, while the other two were made guilty of placing themselves in the coffin.

Thursday’s episode contained a range of emotions from grief, panic and elation. Here’s what you need to know.

Who was ‘murdered’?

“Survivor” winner Jeremy Collins was the third person to be “murdered” by the traitors this season.

Jeremy was chosen to be one of three stalwarts to put in a casket in front of everyone and be ready for elimination alongside “Summer House” star Ciara Miller and “Total Bellas” star Nikki Garcia. The move raised further suspicions about Ciara and Nikki, who were both almost banished.

Danielle Reyes ultimately convinced the traitors to seal Jeremy’s fate by nailing his coffin when he became suspicious of her. Carolyn Wiger was the only traitor against murdering Jeremy as she believed that “Survivor” players should stick together.

Who was exiled?

The winner of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Bob The Drag Queen was the first traitor to be caught and banished by the faithful.

Dylan Efron, the younger brother of the actor with the same famous surname, was the first person to call Bob a faithful. Yet it was the “Survivor” legend’s decision to throw a fellow traitor under the bus that led to the “Drag Race” icon’s downfall. Threatened by Bob, Rob threw his name out before and at the round table, gaining the trust of the faithful and losing the trust of his betrayers.

Carolyn and Danielle also voted to banish Bob, fearing they would look guilty if they didn’t. This led to a heartbroken Danielle’s tearful confession as she didn’t want to betray her “ride or die”.

Who are the traitors? How many are there?

There are four traitors in season 3 consisting of “Big Brother” star Danielle Reyes, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” winner Bob the Drag Queen (Christopher Delmar Caldwell), “Survivor” finalist Carolyn Wiger and “Survivor” winner “Boston “Rob Mariano.

At the end of episode 4, however, only three traitors remain.

How does ‘The Traitors’ work? What is different?

The Emmy-winning series is set in a Scottish castle, where a few contestants are chosen to be traitors who must hide their identities as they collectively eliminate someone every night. The rest of the group, known as the Faithful, must find out who the traitors are before they are “murdered” one by one.

Both the Faithful and the Traitors work as a team to compete in “mission” challenges to raise their total prize pool of at least $250,000. Each episode features a “murder” as well as a banishment where everyone sits at the round table and votes on who they think is a traitor. At the end of the season, if any traitors are present, they take all the money for themselves.

Unlike the first two seasons, Season 3 has made a major game change. In the final episode, the banished players will no longer reveal whether they are a loyalist or a traitor, making it unclear if there are any traitors left.
