JOE HUGILL JOINS UNITED ON LOAN

Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to announce that striker Joe Hugill has joined on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.

Hugill, 21, spent time with Newcastle United and Sunderland in his youth career before signing for Manchester United aged 16 in 2020.

He spent time in the U18 and U23 sides at Old Trafford before loan spells with Altrincham, Burton and Wigan.

During his time with Wigan in the first half of this season, he scored five goals in 18 appearances, which included playing at Brunton Park against United in the FA Cup.

Head coach Mike Williamson said: “We’re delighted to have been able to bring Joe in. He’s someone that we’ve been chasing for a while.

“He gives us pace and power and he will bring another dimension to our game. He has goals in him so we are delighted that he has chosen to join us.”

Sporting director Rob Clarkson said: “We are delighted that Joe has chosen to join us for the remainder of the season.

“He is a goalscorer who adds real pace to our centre-forward options.

“There was a lot of interest in Joe so we are very pleased that he has chosen us as the right club for him at this stage in his career.

“We have been in contact with Manchester United for some time now and we thank them for their cooperation and allowing us to get this loan deal agreed.”
