Two clubs separated by a single point in the Ligue 1 table meet at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy tomorrow night as fifth-placed Lille entertain fourth-placed Nice in a game that appeals to me for goals.

Bruno Genesio’s hosts have scored 26 goals across their first 17 Ligue 1 contests this term, with 14 (54%) coming at home.

Les Dogues have found the back of the net in each of their first eight Ligue 1 matches at home – multiple times in four (50%) of them – and will look to continue their goalscoring record at home against a Nice defense that has only kept three clean sheets in Ligue 1 this season, delivering more goals in five of their last seven.

Franck Haise’s visitors are the third-highest scorers in the French top flight, scoring 35 goals across their first 17 games, with 14 (40%) coming on their travels.

Les Aiglons have failed to score just twice in Ligue 1 this campaign – multiple times in six of their previous seven – and will look to continue their excellent form in front of goal against a Lille backline that has only kept one clean sheet across their last seven Ligue 1 meetings in front of their supporters.

Nice’s first 17 Ligue 1 games this season have averaged an eye-watering 3.41 goals per game. match where both teams to score land in a joint league-high 13 (76%) of them – including in 10 of their last 11 – while six of Lille’s previous seven Ligue 1 contests in front of their supporters have produced goals in both ends.

What’s more, 13 of the last 18 meetings between the pair have seen both sides oblige – including a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture in November – and I hope we see a similarly entertaining encounter in northern France on Friday night.
