Hospitals in Zaragoza have also been alerted due to the seriousness of the incident.

Jorge Azcon, the president of Aragon’s government, and Roberto Bermudez de Castro, the interior minister, are on their way to the resort to assess the extent of the accident.

Azcón said on X: “All the necessary services of the DGA are working to help the affected and injured people.”

The Aragonese government has said that two medical helicopters from Aragon, one from Navarre, another from the GREIM unit and a rescue helicopter have been deployed.

Firefighters and ambulances are also on the scene.

The cause of the incident is unconfirmed, but it was believed to have been a break in the chairlift cable.

This comes just days after a Briton died in a skiing accident while on holiday in the resort of Les Arcs in France.
