Is UFC 311 still happening in LA this weekend? ‘No chance’ of location change as Dana White gives new update amid wildfires

A gigantic wildfire has spread through LA, and in a matter of days more than 10,000 structures had been affected, killing at least 25 people.

Sport then took a backseat, with the risk too high to play matches in the affected areas as the fire continued to spread.

In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers called off their games, while in the NFL, the LA Rams moved the stadium to play.

That left many questioning the venue for UFC 311, which is scheduled to go down at the Intuit Dome…

Is UFC 311 still happening in LA?

UFC 311 is still underway in Los Angeles.

That’s according to President Dana White, who gave a new update on the situation on Wednesday afternoon.

“No, there’s no way we’re moving,” White told The Jim Rome Show after being asked about a relocation.

“We’ll be there on Saturday. 100%

“I think this event will definitely be a boost for the people who live there (in Los Angeles).”

Those comments came after he remained wary of the event if the fires in LA worsened.

Speaking in a stream with star Adin Ross on social media on Sunday, White said: “Well, if the fire gets bad, we’ll come to Vegas.

“Yeah, we’ll move it to Vegas. If it gets too bad. But right now? It’s all gone. The NBA is going this week. We’re going.”

The LA Clippers beat the Miami Heat 109-98 in an NBA game at the Intuit Dome on Tuesday.

The LA Lakers also played at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday, losing 126-102 to the San Antonio Spurs.

In addition to the comments from the UFC boss, the California State Athletic Commission also talked about the situation.

They said: “We are monitoring the ongoing wildfires and subsequent emergency and disaster response in the Los Angeles area.

“Our hearts go out to the residents of the region and we appreciate the efforts of first responders to keep the community safe.

“At this time, no decisions have been made to move UFC 311, but we will continue to work with state and local officials and the UFC to determine the best course of action.”

Since then, nothing has changed, so UFC 311 will take place in Los Angeles.

The BBC has reported that the winds that fueled the bushfires are ‘expected to kick up’ this week.

Forecasters have again warned of ‘extreme fire danger’ in the northwest part of the city center with the Intuit Dome located about 20 miles south of the Palisades fire, which is still burning.

Should all go as planned, UFC 311 will kick off at 11pm UK time before the preliminary bouts kick off at 1am on Sunday morning.

The main card, which included two title matches, is expected to get underway around 03:00 Sunday UK time.

Islam Makhachev will defend his UFC lightweight title against Renato Moicano, while Merab Dvalishvili aims to retain his bantamweight belt against Umar Nurmagomedov.
