United Airlines flight makes emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport due to mechanical problems

NEWARK, New Jersey (WABC) — A United Airlines flight bound for Puerto Rico made an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration said crew members reported a mechanical problem as the plane flew over the Atlantic Ocean shortly after takeoff from Newark.

The plane landed safely at around 11.40am

The FAA is investigating what happened.

The passengers were put on another flight later in the day, the airline said.
