CapCut suspends US operations after TikTok ban

ByteDance’s popular video editing app, CapCut, has suspended its services in the US following the enforcement of a federal ban on TikTok. The Supreme Court upheld the law, which provides a mandate ByteDance either sell TikTok or face a nationwide ban due to national security concerns.
CapCut, which allows users to create and edit videos for platforms like TikTok and Instagram, displayed a notification on its landing page that read: “Sorry, CapCut is not available right now. A new law banning CapCut has been adopted in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you cannot use CapCut right now. Rest assured, we are working to restore our service in the U.S.
The suspension of CapCut, along with TikTok, has affected millions of users who relied on the app for video editing and content creation. The law, which was passed with bipartisan support, addresses data privacy and national security concerns, particularly TikTok’s ties to China.

TikTok banned in the US

TikTok has stopped working in the US, Reuters reports. This means that people in the US can no longer use the popular card video platform. After months of legal battles, the US Supreme Court approved a law banning TikTok on Friday, January 17, citing national security concerns. TikTok users in the US now see this message when they open the app:
“A law banning TikTok has been passed in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you can’t use TikTok now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok, when he joins in. Please follow”.
