Coastal lows bring snow to Sunday

A low pressure wave will form over the southeastern United States and move north, passing east of Long Island and the New England coast Sunday night. The system will be on its way quickly, so snowfall amounts are expected to be moderate for the Capital Region, with smaller amounts as you move further north and west.

The highest snowfall totals will likely be in areas just east and south of Albany. You can click on our snowfall projection map below to see the latest projections. The snow will begin to taper off as we move past midnight and into the early morning hours Monday with dry conditions expected by sunrise. In the wake of the departing storm, the coldest air of the season so far will settle over the region in the first half of next week. Mostly dry weather is expected throughout this period, apart from a few lake-effect snow showers possible in places on Monday, mainly in areas to the west and north-west. A slow temperature restraint is expected for the latter part of the week, with readings easing slightly, but no significant warming is in the forecast. Both Thursday and Friday also look to be mainly dry at this point, although some showers aren’t our question on Friday with a weak upper level disturbance approaching.

Keep it tuned for more updates.
