Lake effect storm bringing heavy snow, bitter cold to Central NY, Upstate NY

Heavy snow and cold winds are headed for parts of central NY and Upstate New York.

The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for the Tug Hill region, including Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties; and for northern Erie and Genesee counties, mainly from South Buffalo and eastward across southern Genesee County.

The Tug Hill region could expect two to three feet of snow in the most sustained snow. The Buffalo area is expected to receive 8 to 16 inches in the most sustained snow, according to the weather service.

The weather service shows that the Syracuse area is expected to receive minimal snow, but a bitter cold will move into the region early next week with the possibility of wind chills at times between -15 to -25 degrees. The coldest period is expected to be Monday night into Wednesday.

The snow will start in Buffalo later today, but the heaviest and most impactful snowfall is expected between late Monday afternoon, Monday night and Tuesday.

In Oswego County, snow is expected from 13.00 Monday to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Jefferson and Lewis counties can expect lake effect snow from 13.00 Monday to 07.00 Wednesday.
