It’s time for Basketball: Spurs at Heat

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies, we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.

The Spurs were no match for the Grizzlies, who flattened the young silver and black team twice earlier this week in the second half of two games that appeared to be competitive at the start. Now they head east, with the first stop in Florida taking on the Heat before crossing the Atlantic to play the Pacers in a two-game series in Wembanyama’s hometown of Paris, France. They have a bit of a break before the first game on Thursday, so it should be all hands on deck for the Silver and Black today, apart from Jeremy Sochan, who is still dealing with back problems.

The Heat are always formidable with Erik Spoelstra at the helm, but it has been a turbulent year for them. Jimmy Butler is coming off a 7-game suspension and played his first game after the break Thursday night against the Nuggets in a 20-point loss in Denver. Even with the loss, Jimmy had a solid game, hitting 7-15 shots and scoring 18. He could be ready for a breakout game today as he shakes off the rust from his suspension. The Spurs need to improve their consistency and avoid those stretches in the second half where the team can’t defend or score points for several minutes at a time. For a team operating on tight margins like the Spurs, that’s a killer. Expect Victor Wembanyama to have a breakout game tonight as the Heat don’t have enough talented bigs to accommodate him. Spurs need a good game tonight to set them up for a successful run in the City of Lights later this week.

Game Prediction:

Jimmy Butler is suspended for the rest of the season after giving Coach Spoelstra a purple nurple in the locker room.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
