Today‘s Jenna Bush Chin and guest cohost Keke Palmer turned up fat lightning when they surprised Andrew Rannells on the last episode of the program.

The actor was in the studio to talk about his Broadway production All In: Comedy about love when he was treated to an unexpected 90s throwback clip of him and Amy Adams in a TV commercial parodying the hit musical Fat.

Responded Rannells: “I thought at one point I’d bump into Amy Adams somewhere, but—”

“Well, let’s get her out!” Palmer shouted. But unfortunately it was a joke.

Rannells then delved into an amusing anecdote about an encounter with his former commercial co-star at one Golden Globes ceremony. “The one time I was asked to attend the Golden Globes, she was there. And you know, it’s like the Hunger Games of celebrities,” Rannells recalled. “It’s like, everybody’s there. I maybe walked towards her with a little too much enthusiasm and her husband kind of stood up and blocked my way.”

He continued, “And I was like, ‘Amy, that’s me! Andy Rannells! We did a commercial together in Omaha in 1996!’ I just started yelling at her.”

The two were able to connect. “She was very nice,” Rannells said. “And then, oddly enough, I saw her many times after that. She was always very nice. And you know what? I’m going to say this: I knew when I met her that she was something special.”

Both stars have come a long way since the humble little bank commercial. Adams, a six-time Academy Award nominee, is once again courting Oscar buzz for his work in Marielle Hellers Nightbitchwhile Rannells, a two-time Tony Award nominee and Grammy winner who has also had roles in films and television series such as Girlsrecently boarded the star-studded All In.
