Winter storm looks in full force as the region prepares for impacts next week

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A winter storm watch is now in effect for most of our area as we track an Arctic breakout next week.

The watch is in effect from Monday evening to Tuesday. Heavy snow will be possible north of I-10, with possible ice accumulations throughout the area.

Hazardous travel conditions are expected from Monday night through Wednesday.

Arctic air moves in on Sunday after the front brings rain and some storms on Saturday. Highs range from the low 70s to the mid 40s.

Wind chills Monday morning will be in the teens and lower 20s. A cold weather advisory is in effect Sunday and Monday night due to the dangerous cold.

Temperatures are dropping to freezing temperatures in our northern regions, so be sure to pack your tubes this weekend. Pets, plants and people should also be protected and indoors.

More hard freezes will be possible through Thursday morning north of the lake. A hard frost is also possible for the south coast on Wednesday morning.

Be aware of the weather and stay tuned as we determine the forecast for precipitation types and accumulations through the start of the week.
