Pensacola area begins to shut down: Cancellations scattered across the area

As the odds of significant snowfall and temperatures that could dip into the teens early next week increase, offices and organizations in Escambia and Santa Rosa County have begun canceling regular office hours and events.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Pensacola area, saying there is a 50% chance the region will see snow totals of 1 to 3 inches on Tuesday. If there is no snow, there will be freezing rain and ice accumulation.

Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 06.00 Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday for Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Pensacola

The list of Pensacola offices closed Tuesday includes:

  • Pensacola’s administrative offices, including departments and divisions not located at City Hall

  • City of Pensacola Community Resource Centers

Pensacola State College

Pensacola State College has closed all offices and canceled all classes and activities on campus Tuesday. Online classes and synchronous online classes are not canceled and continue as normal. Essential personnel contacted by their supervisor must report as directed.

University of West Florida

The University of West Florida has closed all locations Tuesday to include all classes, events, campus activities and online courses. University officials will monitor the weather and update the community regarding Wednesday’s forecast.

Escambia County

The list of Escambia County offices closed Tuesday includes:

  • Escambia County Board of County Commissioners: all departments

  • West Florida Public Libraries: all locations

  • Escambia County Tax Collector: all offices

  • Escambia County Supervisor of Elections

  • Escambia County Property Appraiser’s Office

  • Waste Management and the Perdido Landfill

  • Escambia County Extension Services

  • Escambia County Clerk of Court and Comptroller: all offices

Escambia County Public Schools

Escambia County Public Schools has closed all schools and district offices Tuesday ahead of Tuesday’s wintry weather forecast.

Escambia County Public Schools’ monthly school board meeting has been canceled for Tuesday and will be rescheduled for a later date.

Escambia County Early Voting

All early voting locations in Escambia County will be closed on Tuesday. The opening hours were extended on Sunday and Monday to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

century city

All Town of Century offices will be closed Tuesday and possibly Wednesday due to the storm. The ordinary city council meeting is moved to Thursday.

Santa Rosa County offices

  • The county council meeting and special presentation scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled. The regular commission meeting on Thursday is scheduled to begin at 9.30

  • County offices and facilities, including the Jay Transfer Station, will be closed on Tuesday.

  • The central landfill closes at noon on Tuesday.

  • The Santa Rosa County Clerk of Courts is closed Tuesday.

  • The Santa Rosa County Property Appraiser is closed Tuesday.

  • The Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections is closed Tuesday.

  • The Santa Rosa County Tax Collector is closed Tuesday.

Santa Rosa County Schools

Santa Rosa County schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Santa Rosa County Early Voting

Santa Rosa’s election director has canceled early voting entirely on Tuesday. Opening hours have been extended on Sunday and Monday to 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m

The town of Milton

City closures and cancellations of events

  • All City Offices: Closed Tuesday, including City Hall, Parks & Recreation Department and all Community Center activities.

  • Review of police chief candidate: Originally scheduled for Tuesday at 9:30 – canceled (must be rescheduled).

  • Planning Board Meeting: Originally scheduled for Tuesday at 17.30 – cancelled.

  • City council shadow meeting: Originally planned for Tuesday at 17.30 – canceled (must be rescheduled).

MLK Day Parade & Celebration

  • Hosted by the Fellowship of Churches, the parade and celebration set for Monday has been cancelled.

Adaptations of sanitation services

  • Tuesday 21 January 2025: Sanitation services will be rescheduled to Wednesday 22 January 2025.

Florida Department of Health

All Florida Department of Health in Escambia County (DOH-Escambia) offices will be closed on Tuesday in response to severe weather impacts. The offices will remain closed until further notice.

Emerald Coast Utilities Authority

ECUA offices will be closed on Tuesday. In addition, the meeting of the Citizens’ Advisory Committee (CAC) scheduled for that day has been cancelled. The next CAC meeting will take place on 18 February.

ECUA Sanitation collections will be delayed by one day. Tuesday’s collections take place on Wednesdays, with all subsequent collections running one day later during the week. Friday’s collections will end on Saturday.
