Melania Trump, Mark Zuckerberg attend events

There is a famous news story called “What is the Super Bowl?” and that headline construction still has value today for news media, as the top Google searches about the inauguration this morning are 25 variations of people looking up when it will begin.

But the most popular searches for Trump tell their own story: “Melania Trump meme coin,” “how Trump got TikTok back,” “Village People Trump” and “External Revenue Service Trump.”

Explaining these isn’t as easy as the second question, but here goes: First lady-to-be Melania Trump just launched a meme cointhe same type of cryptocurrency that recently got the “Hawk Tuah” woman heavily criticized. Trump didn’t get TikTok back; in fact, it was his idea to ban it until he flip-flopped after a meeting with a super-wealthy hedge fund manager.

Village people played at a Trump rally last night at Washington’s Capital One Arena. And “External Revenue Service” was Trump’s recent nonsensical proposal to create a new department like the IRS to handle tariffs. (Despite the name, the tariffs end up being paid for by Americans in the form of higher prices.)

Altogether an unfortunate set of subjects.
