Trump signs executive order ending telecommuting for federal employees – NBC4 Washington

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order requiring federal workers in the executive branch to return to personal work.

The executive order, which says the heads of departments and agencies in the executive branch must “take all necessary steps to end telework arrangements and direct employees to return to work in person at their respective duty stations on a full-time basis,” does not specify any new policies for employees, who works remotely.

Remote workers generally perform their jobs from an alternative workplace, e.g. the employee’s home, and does not report back to work in person. Telecommuting describes employees who go to their workplace on a recurring basis, but also have scheduled days where they work from another location.

The executive order says department and agency heads should implement the policy change “as soon as practicable” and that they can make necessary waivers.
