Golden Globes Producers Reveal Their Reaction to Unscripted Vin Diesel-Dwayne Johnson Moment

Golden Globes producers confirm that the moment between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson was completely unexpected.

On Sunday, January 5, Diesel, 57, arrived on stage at the 2025 Golden Globes to present the film and cinema achievement award. But before he announced Evil as a winner, he extended an olive branch to his former Fast and furious costar with whom he has alleged behind-the-scenes drama.

“Hey Dwayne…” Diesel said, smiling and looking at the 52-year-old actor before presenting the award. The cameras cut to Johnson, who responded with a smile.

This was told by the TV show’s executive producer, Glenn Weiss Black to unexpected interaction between actors raised the concern of the producers.

“It kind of grips you, and even you in the press room, us in the truck, going, ‘Wait, what? What’s going on?’ ” Weiss told Black.

He continued: “At that point there’s a live event happening and our job is to bring it to you and let you decipher it. What’s the exchange going on between them? I think it’s really important to show what’s happening in the room. ”

Diesel’s shoutout followed reports that he and Johnson did not get along, with rumors of an alleged feud that began in 2016 after they ended The fate of the furious. At the time, they were rumored to have butted heads on more than one occasion while filming the eighth installment of the franchise.

In August, Johnson posted a now-deleted Instagram in which he praised the film crew and his female co-stars, but called out some unnamed male co-stars.

“There is no other franchise that makes my blood boil more than this one,” he wrote at the time. “My female co-stars are always amazing and I love them. My male co-stars are a different story though. Some act like stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t.”

He added: “Those who don’t are too chickens to do anything about it anyway. Candy a—-. When you see this movie next April and it looks like I’m not in any of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling – you’re right.”

However, Diesel denied the claims, claiming the two were “close”.

“I think some things may have been blown out of proportion. I don’t think that was his intention,” he said of Johnson’s statement. “I know he appreciates how much I work with this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne.”

Johnson left the franchise briefly in 2021. That October, he told Vanity Fair that he only agreed to perform in the 2017s The fate of the furious if he didn’t have to share any scenes with Diesel.

Two years later, Johnson announced his return, and the actors apparently patched up their relationship.

“Last summer, Vin and I put all the past behind us,” Johnson signed X (formerly known as Twitter) in June 2023. “We will lead with brotherhood and determination — and always take care of the franchise, the characters and the FANS that we love.”
