Dallas weather: How much will it snow on Thursday?

Winter storm watches are in effect for most of North Texas as we wait to see snow Thursday and Friday morning.

There are still some fine-tunings in the weather forecast, but here are the things as of Tuesday morning.

Widespread snow accumulations will cause significant travel disruptions along the I-20 corridor, including DFW.

Here’s what we expect.

Is it going to snow on Thursday?

You can expect to see snow on Thursday, but it won’t all be snow.

South of the DFW area starts with a wintry mix.

On Thursday evening we will switch to the heavier snow that will last.

The snow will continue into the early morning hours Friday before moving out.

How many inches of snow is expected on Thursday?

How much snow you get depends on where you live.

We expect the heaviest snow to come to the north and east.

Right now we expect the range to be 3 to 6 inches or more.

In the Metroplex, we expect about 2 to 4 inches.

South of DFW and to the northwest, we expect 1 to 3 inches.

Please note that these figures may change!

That number could be lower in the Metroplex if we see a layer of warm air stick around longer than expected. The figure could be higher if the warm air moves out faster than we expect.

We are fine-tuning our forecast until the snow arrives on Thursday.

No matter where you live, expect to see major disruptions.

Winter Storm Watch

A winter storm watch has been issued for much of North Texas from late Wednesday night through Friday afternoon.

Winter storm watches are issued when conditions are favorable for a significant winter storm event (heavy sleet, heavy snow, ice storm, heavy snow and blowing snow, or a combination of events).
