Next Everton manager: David Moyes? Jose Mourinho? Gareth Southgate? Erik ten Hag?

Moyes had an 11-year spell in charge of Everton from 2002 to 2013, managing the club in more than 500 games.

During that time he took the Toffees to the 2009 FA Cup final, losing to Chelsea, and guided them to nine top-eight finishes, including a fourth-place finish in 2004-05 which took Everton into the Champions League qualifying rounds.

He left Goodison Park to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United before spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland.

Moyes, 61, has since had two spells in charge of West Ham and won the Conference League in 2023, but is currently out of management after losing his job at the end of last season.

He told BBC Sport last month he was not “finished yet” but added: “I don’t want to be at the bottom of the league and fighting relegation like I’ve had a couple of times so we’ll see how things go.”
