North Texas officials are urging caution on the roads as snow and ice settle

State and local officials urged motorists to remain cautious as snow began blanketing North Texas roadways Thursday.

At least five North Texas counties, including Collin, Dallas, Denton, Kaufman and Tarrant, were under winter storm warnings at 9:00 a.m. Texas Department of Transportation applied brine on major highways in preparation for winter storms that began Thursday morning, but road conditions could worsen throughout the day, officials warn.

“Temperatures are still just above freezing, but as they drop and we get more precipitation, conditions can quickly become slippery and dangerous,” TxDOT spokeswoman Kenna Mitchell said.
