NJ truck crash crashes into North Bergen Target – NBC New York

A dump truck crashed into the side of a Target store in New Jersey Friday afternoon, destroying part of the building’s wall and opening a large hole.

The crash happened at the North Bergen Target store on Tonnelle Avenue, closing the road in both directions between 70th Street and 76th Street, according to police.

The accident happened just after

Six people were injured in the accident, including two serious injuries, according to the police in Nord-Bergen. Five of the patients are being treated at local hospitals. One of the people with the most serious injuries was a woman who was in the store’s bathroom when the truck crashed through the wall, says the fire chief.

The driver of the dump truck was among the patients taken to a hospital, according to authorities.

Police said the dump truck crossed into the southbound lanes, struck a tractor-trailer and then crashed into the target. The tractor trailer could be seen near Chopper 4 with the back apparently completely destroyed.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

In a statement, a Target spokesperson said they were “grateful for the quick response of local authorities and our thoughts go out to those who were injured. Our team is safe and our store will remain closed while we assess the damage.”

It was not immediately clear when the store would reopen. Target referred all other questions to law enforcement.
