The 2025 NFL playoffs are in full swing, and only a handful of games separate the NFL from the battle for the crown jewel of the 2024 season.

Super Bowl 59 is just a few weeks away, and eight teams are still battling for the coveted Lombardi Trophy ahead of the divisional round. That group will be whittled down to four over the weekend, but there’s still a ways to go before Super Bowl Sunday is here.

Under the NFL’s previous scheduling format, in place since the early 2000s, Super Bowl Sunday was always the first Sunday in February. But thanks to the league’s updated schedule, it now takes place a week later.

Here’s what you need to know about Super Bowl 59, including what day it is on, what time it starts and how to watch it.

What day is the Super Bowl?

The Super Bowl will be played on Sunday, February 9 in 2025. It will continue the NFL’s new tradition – which began after the league expanded the season to 17 games – of hosting the game on the second Sunday in February.

Where is Super Bowl 59 being played?

  • Location: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans will host the 2025 edition of the Super Bowl. This is the eighth time the Superdome, which has a 50-year history, has hosted the Big Game. That’s the most of any NFL stadium.

The Superdome was originally slated to host Super Bowl 58, but the NFL’s expansion to a 17-game season meant the event — which was awarded to the city in 2018 — would interfere with Mardi Gras. As a result, the NFL chose to host Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas, while New Orleans missed hosting duties for a year.

Super Bowl 47 was the last NFL championship game to be held in the Superdome. That matchup was the famous “Harbaugh Bowl” as Jim Harbaugh’s San Francisco 49ers faced John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens. That game famously featured a second-half delay when the stadium lights went out. The Ravens ended up winning the game 34-31 to give Joe Flacco his only Super Bowl win to date.

Baltimore will hope to repeat its luck in 2025, this time with Lamar Jackson at quarterback.

Who is playing Super Bowl 59?

Who will perform the Super Bowl halftime show this year?

Hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar will perform the Super Bowl 59 halftime show in New Orleans.

Lamar was announced as the Super Bowl’s halftime entertainment on Sunday, September 8, 2024 by the NFL, Apple Music and the Jay-Z-founded entertainment company Roc Nation. The announcement coincided with the league’s first Sunday roster, and Lamar posted one YouTube video to help promote the news.

Lamar previously performed during the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show alongside other hip-hop artists including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent, among others.

It is not clear if the 37-year-old will perform the Super Bowl halftime show solo or if he will have guests as part of his performance.
