Georgetown Hoyas vs Marquette Golden Eagles Prediction, Odds & Picks

We head to the Big East on Tuesday for our Georgetown Hoyas vs Marquette Golden Eagles prediction. This game represents the first true test for a Georgetown team that is very much on the rise and is off to a surprising 12-2 start to the season. They also already have a trio of conference wins, knocking off Creighton, Seton Hall and Xavier. Going to Milwaukee will likely be the toughest place of the season for them, and it’s the Hoyas’ best chance to prove themselves. The Golden Eagles are also perfect in conference play, having positioned themselves for a deep run in March. The problem with the Golden Eagles for bettors is that they are dead even on the season against the spread, and -12.5 is an irrelevant number in this game. For me, I prefer long point total and I take under.

The keys to Georgetown’s success this season have been defense and rebounding, and those elements are traveling. Even if they struggle to score on Tuesday, their defense and rebounding should limit the Golden Eagles more than Shaka Smart’s squad is used to. In that scenario, we are looking at a miracle. The Marquette defense is also excellent, certainly a top-20 unit. Georgetown has struggled to score on the road and has rarely topped 65 away from McDonough Arena. I seriously doubt they’ll notice tonight either. It’s hard for me to imagine this game pushing the tempo, as Marquette doesn’t usually play super fast despite their reputation for scoring and pressuring defenses, and Georgetown probably won’t play fast in this spot. I’m looking for something in the 75-65 range tonight. Give me under.
