The nation will say goodbye to former President Jimmy Carter on Thursday when he is laid to rest.

Carter’s remains will be taken to the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC, after lying in state at the Capitol this week. Following the service, Carter’s remains will be taken to Plains, Georgia for a private funeral and interment Thursday evening.

President Joe Biden declared Thursday a national day of mourning after Carter’s death at age 100 on De. 29. The declaration causes all offices of the federal government to be closed.

The funeral will be broadcast across both network and cable television, and USA TODAY will stream it live.
