Several stock exchanges will be closed on Thursday, a national day of mourning for Carter, who died on Dec. 29. With the federal government scheduled to shut down on Thursday, the Census Bureau and at least one company have rescheduled their releases of data and earnings numbers.

Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will close the US stock and options markets on Thursday. Trading in bonds closes at 2 p.m. ET, according to trade group SIFMA.

Cboe will halt U.S. stock, options and futures exchanges for regular business hours Thursday, the Chicago-based network said. Trading in some options and futures will resume at 8:15 PM ET Thursday.

CME Group will keep its U.S. stock market closed on Thursday while closing other markets early, including ending bond and real estate sales at 1:15 PM ET and US Treasuries at 2:30 p.m. ET, according to its online schedule.

In response to the federal government shutdown, the Census Bureau released monthly wholesale trade data on Wednesday instead of Thursday as originally planned.

Drugstore retailer Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) moved back its next quarterly earnings by one day from Thursday to Friday. And PriceSmart (PSMT), a wholesale warehouse operator, plans to share earnings results after the market closes Wednesday and hold a conference call on the period this Friday.
