Winter storm warnings issued ahead of the winter storm at the end of the week

A WINTER STORM WARNING has been issued for much of Arkansas. These areas may experience significant snowfall accumulations. Freezing rain is more likely in southern Arkansas along the US-82 corridor. The entire state should see some form of winter precipitation Thursday through Friday with major travel issues.

Precipitation will likely begin Thursday morning as a very light wintry mix across western/southwestern Arkansas, then the snowfall will begin to really expand and increase in intensity Thursday afternoon and evening.

Projected start times now have snow starting in central Arkansas around noon Thursday.

Northern Arkansas will likely see lighter amounts of snow, but depending on the storm track, there will be a heavier band of snow from southwest into central Arkansas.

Here’s our forecast for snow across Arkansas, and even some freezing rain in the southern part of the state, for Thursday and Friday.

Freezing rain is more likely along US-82 in southern Arkansas. More than a quarter inch of freezing rain can accumulate here. Isolated power outages will be possible. Some sleet is also possible over much of southern Arkansas.

Major Travel Impacts Expected Across Arkansas! The wintry weather looks to taper off Friday afternoon. The thaw begins on Saturday.
