Arizona Weather Forecast: Wind Advisory in Phoenix

Our first winter storm of 2025 is moving through Arizona. The storm will bring strong winds, scattered rain/snow showers and cold temperatures to the state.

Rain and snow

Through Wednesday morning, light snow showers are possible on and off in areas such as the San Francisco Peaks, Mogollon Rim and White Mountains. The moisture will drift south and east.

The White Mountains may see lingering snow showers throughout the day, again, spotty and light. Snow totals are expected to be low, with 1-2″ possible in Flagstaff, 4-6″+ atop the San Francisco Peaks, and up to 1″ for places like Pinetop and Heber. Top of the White Mountains can record a few centimeters too.

Wind

Wind gusts will increase as the storm system passes over the state and lasts through Wednesday. Wind gusts are expected to reach 30-40 mph in the north Arizona.

In the valley, winds will increase Tuesday night through Wednesday with gusts between 25-35 mph. The strongest winds over the White Mountains will reach 20-30 mph over the next few days.

There is one Wind advisory in place along western Arizona near Mohave and La Paz counties. Gusts may exceed 40-50 mph in the advisory zones.

Cold temperatures

The height reached 68° in Phoenix Wednesday and is registered for 64 Thursday and Friday. Highs in the mid-60s will continue into the weekend. Overnight lows plummet in the coming days.

ONE Freeze Watch is in place for Pinal County and areas south/east Wednesday and Thursday evening. In Phoenix, low temperatures will drop into the low 40s starting Thursday morning.

By the weekend, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is expected to slide into the upper 30s with some temperatures around freezing on the fringes of the valley like Buckeye and Queen Creek.

After the storm system passes, cool air will dominate the forecast through the weekend. The following week, temperatures may slowly begin to climb back toward the 70s.

It appears that the pattern may revert to drier conditions after this winter storm event. Overall, the 10-day forecast looks a lot more like a desert winter than it has!
