Denver police did not release the identities of the victims of the stabbings, but American Airlines confirmed to USA TODAY that one of its flight attendants, 71-year-old Celinda Levno, was stabbed and killed Saturday.

“We are devastated and mourn the tragic loss of our colleague who was the victim of a senseless crime. Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones and colleagues and we are doing everything we can to assist law enforcement in their investigation, the airline said in a statement.

‘Senseless tragedy’

On Sunday, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants released a statement honoring Levno’s life.

“We support Celinda’s family, friends and our colleagues at Phoenix Inflight as they process this senseless tragedy,” one informs the association. “Celinda’s love for her horses, friends and family will always be remembered.”

To her friends and family, Levno was known as a kind woman, an incredible musician and a true animal lover.

“Everything she did was for everyone else,” Josephine Dale, a close friend of Levno’s, wrote in a statement to The Arizona Republic, part of the USA TODAY Network. “She will now be with us every step of the way and her love of horses will be carried on through us all.”
