Minnesota Vikings at Los Angeles Rams: First quarter recap and second quarter discussion

We’ve made it through the first quarter of this Wild Card playoff run, and our Minnesota Vikings are following suit Los Angeles Rams with 10-0.

The Rams got the football only after the Vikings won the toss and, as is their habit in such situations, held off until the second half. After a touchback, the Rams got off to a quick start when Matthew Stafford found Puka Nacua for a big gain into Minnesota territory on the first play from scrimmage. Two plays later, Stafford found Tyler Higbee for another big catch and the Rams were in the red zone. After a fourth down play in which Jonathan Bullard jumped offside to give the Rams a first-and-goal, Stafford found Kyren Williams for a 5-yard touchdown to give the Rams a quick 7-0 lead.

The Vikings got the ball and thanks largely to a 10-yard loss on a sack by Darnold, quickly went three-and-out and gave the ball back to the Rams. The Los Angeles offense was rolling again until they were called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in a dead ball situation. They had to settle for a field goal as Joshua Karty connected from 34 yards out to extend the lead to 10-0.

As we move into the second quarter, the Vikings are looking at a 3rd and 10 from the Los Angeles 24-yard line.

Not a good start for the Vikings, as they find themselves down 10-0 at the start, but are on the verge of denting the scoreboard. Come on in and join us for the second quarter game!
