Gwendoline Christie’s Bug-Eye glasses are straight off the Milan runway

Prada’s stunning Spring 2025 collection had so much going on that it was hard to pick a star piece. However, the shield-like sunglasses certainly got their share of attention. Leave it to Gwendoline Christie to be among the first to actually work those glasses into her real style.

This morning, the actresses showed up to CBS’s New York studios wearing bug-eyed glasses from the Prada collection. Christie’s goggles, which she smartly paired with a simple wool coat, had a geometric shape and a tinted effect. A pale blue raffia bag, also from Prada, added a pop of color to her look, as did her choice of yellow kitten heels. Even her shoes were pretty quirky, with a sculpted, Jetson-esque detail on the back.

There’s nothing the fashion world loves more than novelty glasses, and Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada’s latest collection was full of them. Like Christie’s interpretation, they displayed the bug-like pieces alongside twisted images of stapled pieces: think simple utilitarian bombers, mini skirts and office buttons.

The designers looked to “elements from different eras coexisting simultaneously to challenge any theory of chronology, creating impossible contrasts, points of difference,” according to show notes.

If anyone is going to incorporate a crazy runway design into her everyday wardrobe, it’s Christie. There’s always been a theatrical element to the actress, something no better exemplified by when she closed John Galliano’s couture show for Maison Margiela last year. Perhaps this is where she picked up a few tips on translating court magic to real life.
