Born Again’s new trailer complicates Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock’s relationship

Generate Key Takeaways

Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is the mayor, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is not Daredevil, and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) seems to be in incredible shape. These are just a few of the details about Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again featured in its brutal new trailer.

The roughly two-minute glimpse of season two doesn’t reveal much more than that New York Comic Con trailer that leaked last October did, but it puts us a little deeper into the mind of the devil from Hell’s Kitchen. When Fisk asks why Murdock stopped being awake, our blind hero replies, “A line has been crossed,” before we see his cracked Daredevil mask fall to the ground. From the sounds of it, Murdock struggles with the common vigilante paradox of how violence can be argued to stop some violence, but also blurs the line between justice and retribution. It’s clear he’ll return to bone-crushing action before all is said and done (and after that, it seems, he’ll break many, many bones), but the season may find him struggling to reconcile his thirst for revenge with his duty to protect.

Another aspect of the new trailer that should pique everyone’s interest is the dynamic between Murdock and Mayor Fisk. The trailer reveals that it was Murdock who invited Fisk to meet at the diner. But more importantly, we see Fisk’s almost sentimental connection to his archenemy when he remarks, “It’s not entirely unpleasant to see you again.” It seems there may be a mutual level of respect between the two men, both succumbing to their violent sides to serve their individual purposes.

Something tells me there will be a common enemy or an intricate tangle of circumstances that invariably leads to Fisk and Daredevil temporarily teaming up. We’ll find out if I’m right when the series premieres on March 4.
