The main outage closes part of the busy road near downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZ family) – A water main break has forced some traffic closures near a busy downtown Phoenix area.

According to the City of Phoenix Water Services Department, crews are making progress repairing the break on Van Buren Street that happened Tuesday afternoon. However, the street is still expected to be closed in both directions near 12th Avenue.

Crews expect to open one westbound lane Wednesday evening.

The street is closed in both directions between 11th and 12th Avenue. One westbound lane is expected to open tonight as emergency repairs continue.

Phoenix Water says the emergency repairs have not affected area residents.

The cause of the breach remains under investigation.
