The New York Knicks couldn’t ask for a better leader than Brunson, the 28-year-old former Villanova Wildcat. Like Brunson did at ‘Nova (two national titles), all he’s done in a Knicks uniform is win.

A big aspect of Brunson’s greatness is his toughness and selfless personality, traits that impressed Knicks icon Walt “Clyde” Frazier enough to recently compare Brunson to another Knicks legend: Willis Reed.

Brunson’s mentality is refreshing (and rare) among professional athlete superstars. He always takes the blame for losses, he doesn’t make excuses, and he rarely if ever takes credit for wins, even when he explodes offensively, as he did in December against the Washington Wizards with a 55-point, 9-assist masterclass.

However, Brunson is more than just a general in the locker room. He’s also really, really hard to guard. Averaging 28.7 points per game last season at Brunson’s size doesn’t happen by accident. He’s taking three fewer shots per game this season (due to KAT’s arrival) and is still scoring 25.7 a night.

A top-five MVP candidate last year, it doesn’t rule out Brunson being a top vote-getter again this season if New York stays near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

Another winning quality of Brunson’s is his durability. It might seem like a controversial point to bring up given how last season ended, but Brunson has appeared in 40 of the Knicks’ 41 games so far this season and has shown in many instances that he is willing and able to to play through injuries.

Almost no one envisioned Brunson becoming a top-three point guard in the world, but the sample size is now large enough — Brunson is that guy.

It feels like he will retire in a Knicks uniform, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him grab a ring along the way.

But who tops Brunson as the second-best point guard in the game today? Find out below.
