Danielle Collins facing the only Aussie left in the draw, the wild card Destanee Aiavato book a place in the third round. She has been a finalist in Melbourne in 2022, where she lost to the home favorite Ashleigh Barty. Since then, she has failed to make it past the first round of all the grand slams she has played.

Aiava is the only Australian woman left in the singles main draw. She beat the Belgian Greetings Minnen in the first round, remarkably turning the game around at one set and 5-2 down in the second set before winning an extraordinary final set tiebreak.

With all eyes on Aiava, she will gather a lot of support from the crowd as she faces a former runner-up. Collins’ aggressive play from the baseline will be essential in this contest along with her powerful groundstrokes. Collins should not be deterred by the home crowd and should prevail in three close sets against a highly motivated opponent.

Prediction: Collins in three sets.

Holger Rune will look to move closer to the second week as he eyes a third-round slot in the draft. He has never reached the first week on hard courts at a grand slam. He suffered three first-round losses last year at Brisbane, the US Open and Hangzhou. Hans won his first round match against Zhizhen Zhang when he competed in his first ever five-set match in Australia.

Matteo Berrettini dropped the first set he played in the tournament but proved too strong for the Briton Cameron Norriethat widely dominates the last two sets. He served 32 aces and served big en route to the second round without dropping a game.

The Italian is playing a strong fight to get back to the top. His huge and sharp serve and slice backhand are the strong weapons that the Dane will face, with his defensive game and quick footwork. It will be an engaging game for the John Cain Arena crowd, which is expected to go the way of the former Wimbledon finalist.

Prediction: Berrettini in four sets.

US Open quarterfinalist, Beatriz Haddad Maia will meet Erika Andreeva with the winner advancing to the third round of the Australian Open. She registered her first win of hers in the first round against the Argentine Julia Riera in a hard-fought game as the latter secured the first set but could not continue the same in the second and was broken by the 15th.th seed in the penultimate game of the set.

Andreeva is the rising star of the WTA and her game is characterized by versatility and maturity. The tournament is the first time she has managed to enter the main draw and her recent performances show her steady rise up the rankings. Her first round against Saisai Zheng started on an easy note while the second was stretched to a tie-break where her first serve percentage was 38% and she made 26 winners against 21 unforced errors.

The second meeting between them will be a display of strong serving from the Brazilian and a controlled and solid baseline game from her opponent. The latter look strong to win the match, but an upset could be on the cards.

Prediction: Andreeva in three sets.
